The brawl between Emilio Aguinaldo College and Mapua Institute of Technology marked history in the Philippine sport industry. Unfortunately, this mishap is constantly feasted online. A lot of netizens expressed their disappointments regarding the behavior of the young basketball players and facilitators of the match.
In the very viral EAC-Mapua brawl, it can be observed that both parties were at fault. One started the fire while some fueled it which resulted to a great disaster. With this unfortunate incident, the NCAA management made its action and slapped everyone who was involved in the brawl with sanctions and penalties.
EAC’s John Tayongtong, the player who threw a punch to Mapua’s CJ Isit, got the heaviest penalty of five-game ban.
Four-game ban was given to Cardinal player Leo Gabo who pushed Tayongtong before the brawl started. Co-Mapua players Jomari Tubiano was whip with 3-game suspension while two-game ban was given to Justin Serrano, James Galoso, Exequiel Biteng and Andrew Estrella. Jerome Canaynay, Ronnel Villasenor and Darrel Magsigay are also sanctioned not to play for one game.
On the EAC’s Generals side, 3-game suspension was given to Jan Jamon, Ariel Aguilar, Sidney Onwubere and Jack Arquero. Their teammates John Santos, Manelle Quilanita and Edsel Saludo also need to sit out for two games while Faustine Pascual was ban for one game.
The referees during the EAC-Mapua also faced penalties. Referees Molly de Luna, Meynard Ballecer and Cholo Caoile were handed undisclosed fines and indefinite suspensions.
